Ministry to most people
is about having a pulpit to preach from and a group of people who holla right
back at you. Contrary to popular opinion, ministry has long been redefined by the
21st century and its challenges. Gone are the days when ministry was
all about church and in church. Today, ministry transcends every industry and
facet of life.
Let’s get things
cleared up before we go on. If you’re in the fashion industry, media, Education
or whatever and you are saved (have a relationship with Jesus), then you are in
ministry. It really doesn’t matter if it is an NGO fixing water and sanitation
issues in Ikorodu or a team providing access to Education for young girls in
kogi state, or a fashion/make-up house proving skill acquisition opportunities
to other young people.
It’s sad if you’re doing
these and don’t know that you’re into ministry. This is because you are like a
farmer on his field who is ploughing the ground with eyes half asleep. The
farmer wouldn’t do it properly.
If you already know
you’re in ministry as a believer in the capacity you’re serving mankind and contributing
to make lives better? KUDOS!
Here are a few
things you might not know about yet
1.
Everyone
won’t believe in you
It’s
okay to expect every Tola, Hawua and Ada in your life to believe in you but it’s
quite an unrealistic expectation. Some people would eventually do after they’ve
seen your works and the impact you’re making and there are others who just wouldn’t
because they just wouldn’t. They could be close friends, parents or anyone you
love and respect. Don’t let that make you give up. Simply focus on your
objectives for serving in that area and keep going. We seek God’s applause not
everyone else’
2.
You
won’t always feel appreciated
I
love it when people say, “Princess you blessed me” but sincerely I don’t wake
up in the morning on “appreciation hunt”. Graciously receive appreciation and thank
those who appreciate you in return but never make appreciation your drive. You won’t
last if you did. Besides, God is the employer and He appreciates you and will
reward you on earth and in death. Stay focused.
3.
You
would feel alone sometimes
You
might be privileged to have a barrage of support at the start. Don’t let that
fool you. It’s really your journey and not theirs. You would have to make bold
decisions alone, face ugly giants alone and run for a bit alone. How we handle these
moments will determine if we finish strong or not. Always remember that the
vision was given to you. The burden was placed in your heart. The instruction
was given to you and like most leaders you will sometimes have to stand alone.
Be courageous. You must not fail God or the people you serve in moments like that.
Keep in mind that Jesus never abandons us. He is always there helping out even
when we can’t feel his presence.
4. You
don’t know nothing yet
Yeah
I know that sounds rude right? I’m sorry though but honestly honey; take a look
at your life. Five years ago you thought you knew much and your head felt full
with knowledge right? Have you noticed how some or most of all that can’t be
compared with what you know now? You have more information, better exposure and
strategy on implementing your set goals. Now I need you to realize that what
you know now is nothing compared to what you need to know so never stop
learning. Intentionally commit to learning something new about your area of
service/ministry every day. Humility doesn’t mean you should deny that you know
a bit; but then still see what you have as never enough so you can grow as much
as possible.

5.
Never
despise small beginnings
As
young people we often can’t wait to have the big platforms, the big
connections, popularity and all the glamour associated with “big” things. What
we may not realize is that real things don’t go big overnight. Be faithful
where you are. Give your best in proportion with the capacity and resources
that you presently have. Don’t be bothered if no one appears to notice you. The
most important thing is you’re making impact. What seem like little today would
be big tomorrow if you stay committed.
6.
Comparison
Kills like Virus
I’m
on different lane than you. Don’t ruin your joy by matching your results
against those of others. We all have our place in fixing the challenges of
mankind. The pretty thing is, God doesn’t reward size, He rewards
faithfulness/commitment. So don’t let comparison make you bitter and resentful.
It’s never worth it.
7.
Make
Mistakes but don’t make mistakes
What
are you saying Princess? Should we become overly cautious not to make mistakes?
Hmmmm, no dear. However, you still need to be careful. The effects of some mistakes
can ruin your chances forever. There are things that cannot be undone once they
happen. So don’t live like you have an extra life under your bed. You have just
one so make wise choices, avoid acting on impulse, investigate people and
groups before you commit to them or collaborate with them. Don’t think every
invite is an opportunity to grow big. Some are traps in disguise. Scan your
associations. Never ever give yourself to anything or anyone without verifying
what they truly represent.
Committed
to your Fulfilment
